🌿 A Fresh Burst of Growth on the Plot
Over at the Garden Hues allotment, things are really starting to pick up pace. This week, we turned our attention to the long bed — and it’s now planted up with courgettes and pumpkins, ready to ramble and thrive.
These plants love rich, moisture-retentive soil, so to give them the best start possible, we top-dressed the entire bed with a generous layer of green waste compost. This not only helps suppress weeds, but also keeps the soil structure open and full of life. As the compost breaks down, it’ll feed the soil and help those hungry squashes settle in.
🛠️ What We’ve Been Up To
- We prepared the long bed with a light fork-through to loosen the surface
- Spaced our courgette and pumpkin plants well apart to give them room to sprawl
- Gave them a good watering in and mulched thickly with compost
We’re hoping for strong growth over the next few weeks — and we’ll be sure to keep you posted on how they get on.
